Flagship Powell Cable Car Slips Into Service
Without fanfare, the latest product of Muni’s able cable car shops has rejoined the fleet after a full restoration and makeover.

Warriors Arena in Mission Bay Boosts Importance of Extending the E-Line

Telling a Great Story of 108 Years Ago
On or about April 14, 1906, 108 years ago this week, pioneering professional filmmakers the Miles Brothers bolted a hand-cranked camera onto the front of a cable car and rode down Market Street from Eighth Street to the Ferry Building. The film they shot has gained new interest in the past few years, since film historian David Kiehn demonstrated that it was made just a few days before the great earthquake and fire destroyed almost everything you see. (Previously, the film was thought to have been made in the summer of 1905.)

It’s going to take even longer before you see this sight every day. E-line service won’t be full-time until 2016.
Our E-line Vision Gaining Attention
Recently restored E-line PCC streetcar No. 1008 switches off the F-line tracks onto the connector track that will take it the rest of the way on The Embarcadero during America’s Cup service August 25, 2013. The special E-line connector track has been in place almost a decade, waiting for the full-time startup of the line.
