The most eye-catching streetcars in Muni’s fleet are Cars 228 and 233, the open-top boat trams from Blackpool, England, built in 1934. This image, by San Francisco artist John Mattos, shows a boat tram cruising past San Francisco’s iconic Ferry Building on the city’s grand waterfront boulevard, The Embarcadero. During good weather, the Boat often plies the waterfront between our San Francisco Railway Museum and Fisherman’s Wharf, filled with the smiling faces of riders from around the world.
