Fisherman’s Wharf is one of America’s most popular visitor destinations. This great illustration by San Francisco artist John Mattos shows one of Muni’s Milan Trams running past Restaurant Row in the heart of the Wharf.
Milan Tram No. 1811 is one of eleven 1928 streetcars in Muni’s fleet from Milan, Italy. It’s especially appropriate for this image, since Fisherman’s Wharf and the adjacent North Beach neighborhoods have been the beating heart of San Francisco’s Italian-American community for a century.
Milan trams can be found in regular service on the F-line, along Market Street and The Embarcadero, filled with the smiling faces of riders from around the world.
