First laid in the 1880s at the beginning of the Cable Car era, this rail saw service for nearly 75 years before being removed in 1954 when San Francisco’s Cable Car system was downsized to its present configuration. The rail shows the wear and tear from use and the passage of time in its rustic patina. It can be polished and lacquered to prevent further oxidation.
